Review: The Face Shop’s Face it Collagen EX Two-Way Cake

Hello lovely humans!

Today I’ll be reviewing The Face Shop’s Face it Collagen EX Two-Way Cake.  Now, I’m not exactly too sure what they mean by “two-way” but hey, it works! 😀

This powder foundation has quite high coverage, and can appear chalky. So use a gentle hand when patting the powder into your skin. The thing that you have to keep in mind though is that the extremely bright lights may affect your choice of shades. The shade looked completely fine in store, but at home it was too pale. The Sales Associates will also have a tendency to recommend shades that are kiiiiiinnnnda’ lighter than your skin tone. It’s not that they’re inept at skin matching. It’s a different beauty standard.

In Asia, paler skin is seen as more delicate and more refined. This view was around since ancient history because it differentiated the poor, tanned farmers (who were always outside working) from the rich, pale aristocrats (who were usually inside). Times have changed but for a lot of Asian people, this beauty standard is what they truly see as the ideal.

The reason why I mentioned this is if you end up picking up a lighter shade, you might want to skip out on the liquid foundation underneath. Otherwise, you may not be happy with the results. It may appear too pale and chalky.

Packaging:

I’m IN LOVE with the packaging. When you take it out of the box, it looks so sleek with its metallic sheen. ❤ It comes with a mirror, and a plastic cover to separate the sponge from powder. The best part is when you open/close it! Since it closes with a magnet, you don’t have to dig your nails in to pry the compact open! *Clap Clap Clap*

Price: $30 CAD

How much do good quality powder foundations usually cost?

Overall: 3.5/5

I would recommend this to people with paler skin tones, as The Face Shop didn’t carry too many shades. It has good coverage with a matte finish. I do like this better than my other powder foundation.

“So that’s all folks!” Have you used other powder foundations before and how did you find them? I’d love to hear your comments and thoughts. Thanks again for reading! 😀
