Review: Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

My current primer works okay to protect my pores from base makeup, but one day I decided to look for something that could help control oil production on my T-zone. I headed over to Shoppers Drug Mart and got Rimmel’s Stay Matte Primer.

Performance: Minimal mattifying and blurring action ;
May cause breakouts on acne-prone skin

This primer feels like a thick moisturizer but with the slippery feel of silica (silicon) to it. It somewhat blurred my pores and somewhat helped to control oiliness. However, the results weren’t anything really noticeable. Not to mention that my first few uses of this primer slightly irritated my skin. From then on, I didn’t use it consecutively nor did I apply it all over my face. I don’t think it’s meant to be an “all over” primer anyway- just limited to the t-zone.

Price: Approximately $7 CAD in drug stores

Packaging:

It comes it a simple, plastic squeeze tube and contains 30mL / 1 oz of product.

Overall: 2.5/5

Other people loved this, but unfortunately for me, this was one of those primers that were a little better than nothing. My skin has gotten used to the primer so it doesn’t break me out anymore, but I still refrain from using it all over my face. On the positive side, it helps to mattify my skin a couple hours longer. Other than that, it wasn’t a game changer in my makeup routine. I’ll keep using it because I have it, but I think I’ll search for a primer beyond the drug store in the future.

What was your experience with Rimmel Stay Matte Primer?

  1. It’s too bad that this primer was just ‘meh’ for you. I actually gave up my Lise Watier primer for the Stay Matte. I love it so much!!

    1. Thanks for dropping by, and glad to hear that I helped! xD
      Ya this primer tends to be a hit or miss with lots of people. If you’re acne prone like me, this one may not be the best for you.
      Hope you find one that matches your skin type! Let us know when you have. 🙂
