Review: Shiseido Purifying Mask and Buxom Full Bodied Lipgloss

Hi all!

It’s been a while! How have you all been doing?

On my day off last week, I finally got the chance to attend Shiseido’s annual warehouse sale. Not only do they sell Shiseido products, but also other brands that fall under the Shiseido tree (ie. NARS, Cle de Peau, Orlane, Joico, Buxom). Last year, a lot of their products were up to 50% off. This year, some of the products were a bit higher priced ’cause you know…inflation. The facial cleansing brush that I bought last year for $15 was $20 this year.

Anyways, I only got 2 products this time around because I didn’t feel the “need” to get anything else. Besides, I can’t really use many of their skincare products since most, if not all, contain fragrance. However, I did get a clay mask from them which does contain fragrance at the bottom of the list, but since it’s a 5 minute leave-on mask, my skin can tolerate it.

Shiseido Purifying Mask

Appropriate for : Oily Skin; Normal Skin; Sensitive Oily Skin

Cost at the sale: $20 CAD

How to Use: Cleanse and dry your face. Apply mask onto oily parts of the face. After 5 minutes, rinse off the mask and moisturise your skin.

During: The texture is thick and non-watery. You can easily apply it all over your face, and you’ll only need a small amount of product. Like with all clay masks, this mask is meant to absorb sebum but don’t expect anything crazy. It’s supposed to be gentle enough for normal and sensitive skin types. Despite that, I wouldn’t apply this clay mask onto any dry patches as it becomes uncomfortably tight and dry.

After: Although my dry patches got drier (I should’ve known not to do that), the rest of my skin felt softer and less oily. And because I have sensitive skin, I wouldn’t leave it on for longer than 5 minutes since it does contain fragrance and the drying nature of a clay mask can be irritating for some.

Thoughts: Sticky texture… Good MLBB colour….but EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE before using. It lifts up dry skin. >.<

Overall Thoughts: I’d say get the mask if you want, but you’re not missing out on anything if you don’t get it. There are other clay masks out there at less than half the price and they perform the same. I would also skip out on the Buxom Full Bodied Lipgloss. I’ve tried other glosses which were sticky in texture too, but they smoothly applied over dry skin. It’s not the case with this one; the thick texture lifts up dead skin, which is not a pretty sight.

All in all, if you live in the GTA, do check out the sale next year. They have a good range of skincare products for those who aren’t sensitive to fragrance, and quite a bit of makeup too. It would be a good way to test out Shiseido products before buying them at full retail price. 😀 Just make sure to do your own research about the products’ ingredient lists, if you have any sensitivities. I’m saying this because I came across a SA at the sale who looked me right in the eye and said that their Shiseido Purity Gel-Cream doesn’t contain fragrance. I was doubting her (don’t even know why I asked in the first place), and lo’ and behold, fragrance is mixed in the concoction but at the bottom of the list. Regardless, it’s still fragrance. So do your research and trust your guts!

“That’s all folks!”
