Beauty Favourites of 2016

Happy New Year, guys! Got any plans for 2017?

At the start of a new year, I like to reflect on the previous year and feel grateful for the big and little moments of my life rather than set up resolutions that may or may not happen. And since this IS a beauty blog after all, let’s reflect on our favourite beauty products – new and old – of this past year.

Favourite Foundation: Makeup Forever Duo Mat Powder Foundation

  • Medium coverage powder foundation
  • Stays matte
  • Covers pores and lines nicely

Favourite Primer (for normal skin): Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick

  • Covers pores nicely
  • Compact packaging
  • Good for touch-ups
  • Not for dry skin, as the stick tends to collect dust and dead skin cells

Favourite Fall/Winter Lip Product: MAC Satin Lipstick in ‘Retro’

  • Pigmented red-brown shade
  • Classy colour for those who don’t want a true red
  • Leaves behind a nice stain

Favourite Spring/Summer Lip Product: Lancome Juicy Shaker in ‘Wondermelon’

  • Beautiful and fresh ‘watermelon’ pink tint
  • Oily consistency and spongy applicator makes (Korean) lip ombre easier to achieve

Favourite Nail Polish for Work: Nails Inc Gel Polish in ‘Porchester Square’

  • Cute and sophisticated grey-lavender colour
  • Wide brush and gel formula make application easy
  • Not patchy and long-wearing
  • Glossy finish

Favourite Nail Polish for Summer: Sinful Colors in ‘Koral Riff’

  • Pigmented hot pink
  • Matte finish
  • Fun colour for the summa’  😉

Favourite Brow Filler: Anastasia Brow Powder Duo

  • A little goes a long way
  • Pigmented and slightly waxy powder fills and defines brows in a natural way
  • Can use it with slanted eyeliner brush to shape brows before filling them in
  • Can use lighter shade on the front and darker shade on the back of brows
  • Will probably last me another two years, haha

Favourite Brow Tool: Kai Eyebrow Razors

  • Sharp and won’t nick the skin
  • Small enough to accurately shape brows (7mm blade)
  • Can use it for other parts of the face
  • And it’s cheap! 3 for $8 at Asian beauty supply stores

Favourite Scent: Chloe Eau de Parfum

  • Sophisticated floral scent that’s not overpowering and not overly sweet
  • What can I say? It just smells nice! Sorry, I’m not a perfume connoisseur.

Favourite Liquid Eyeliner: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liner

  • Matte finish
  • Pigmented waterproof liner (unfortunately, not oil-proof)
  • Dries quickly

Favourite Balm Cleanser: Heimish All Clean Balm

  • Affordable balm / oil cleanser (Approx. $15 CAD)
  • Easily removes makeup, emulsifies, and rinses off
  • An herbal or earthy scent
  • Mostly natural ingredients

Favourite Eye Cream: Vasanti Eye Wonder

  • No added fragrance
  • A lot of product compared to most eye creams
  • Moisturising without causing milia
  • Contains peptides

Favourite Winter Moisturizer: CosRx Advanced Snail 92 Cream

  • No added fragrance
  • Moisturises deeply into the skin
  • Not too heavy
  • Contains snail mucin which helps heal skin

These are just a few of my favourites from 2016! I know, some of you may be thinking, “What happened to mascara, concealer, primer for oily skin, .etc.?” I haven’t found my favourites for those categories as of yet. If anything, I do hope that I can find ones in 2017. Fingers crossed!

Happy 2017! Wishing you all health and prosperity!

P.S. Let me know if you want a more detailed review of any of these products! 😀

  1. Great post! I tried that Lancome Lip oil, ended up taking it back. I actually use eyebrow shavers on my face. Since I’ve been in menopause, I’ve been sprouting hair everywhere. I’ve pretty much given up on my eyebrows. I wear glasses, so you really can’t even see them, and they are blonde.
